Default Address Book

By default, when Outlook is configured to use a Microsoft Exchange server, the Global Address Book is used first. This applies to the resolution of names typed in the 'To field of an e-mail as well as the address book that is shown when manually selecting e-mail addresses.

To change this default behavior:

  1. Within Outlook, select ToolsAddress Book... or press Ctrl-Shift-B.
  2. In the Address Book window that appears, select ToolsOptions....
  3. Change the address book settings as desired. The settings for using the Contacts list first are shown to the right.

Certificate installation

The SSL certificate must be considered valid by the client computer before Outlook will allow the connection. The easiest way to check this is to open the HTTPS site in Internet Explorer (e.g., https://example.com). If IE displays any warnings about the SSL certificate, the RPC connection will not work.

Using Self-Generated Certificates

If the root certificate is the same as the certificate IIS is using (as seems to be the case with Small Business Server certificates) you can simply "install" the certificate via IE. Otherwise, you must install the root certificate separately.

If installing the certificate in IE, under Vista you must run IE as an administrator.

The certificate needs to be installed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store. If done properly, a window similar to the one pictured will appear asking for confirmation.

In my case I used a *.cer file.

Problems

High CPU Usage

Sometimes this can be solved by disabling unnecessary addons, as described here: [1]
